43. Roman Road
In early times all the roads were on the hill tops, because of the swampy condition of the valley.
At Counter Hill, Silsden are the remains of a Roman Camp. A camp of much greater importance was built at Colne. The roadway
which joins these two goes through Aden, the part of Sutton township on the hill. It was not an important road being little
more than a paved byepath. While ploughing in this area a farmer recently uncovered part of the road.
