5. The Bronze Age
Following and overlapping the Neolithic Age is the Bronze Age, when the human race made a great stride forward, by discovering
the use of metal instead of stone.
Several years ago a very early bronze weapon was found on the moor. This axe is much larger than the arrow heads of the
Neolithic Age, and when comparing the two it is plainly seen how much easier man's life must have been after he could make
and use bronze weapons. This bronze weapon was picked-up in the same neighbourhood as the earlier weapons i.e. near the Hitchingstone.
From this we get two things. The first that life in our districts has been continuous. The second, that in all probability the
Hitchingstone was the first beginning of Sutton and Cowling.
