42. Roads

It has been said that anyone who comes to Sutton must have done so on purpose, as it is on the road to nowhere. Access to the village was not easy until comparatively recent times. Most of the neighbouring villages are on the roadside of one or other of the two main roads from Lancashire to Yorkshire in this valley.
