Thompson's Field leaflet and objection letter
All households in the village should shortly be receiving copies of a leaflet about the development proposals and an objection letter template.
You can download the leaflet here.
You can download the objection letter template here.
You can also download a copy of Craven District Council's Local Plan map (Adopted July 1999) which clearly shows Thompson's Field defined as Green Wedge (policy BE3) and is included in the Special Landscape Area covered by policies ENV1, ENV2, ENV4, R7, R17 and UTI12.
These policies were saved pending adoption of the now defunct Local Development Framework (which never got past the "draft" stage) and are STILL IN FORCE. Saved policies were used last month to refuse planning application 22/2011/12020 for a development in Bannister Wood, Cowling.

Thanks for this Paul, I have printed off four letters of objection and posted them for my fiance, myself and my parents (who don't have a computer) We have also printed the poster and placed it our windows - lots of people passing and reading, so will hopefully will spread the word :o) Nikki |

Hi Thanks I received mine today, thanks to the intrepid souls who braved the rain and cold wind for their efforts.
Fully intend to make the 6th Jan meeting, looks like we need a determined plan to object to this robustly.
Cheers,
Con. |

I see that Holme Lane is currently flooded by the entrance to Thompson's Field - but don't worry, we were assured that the proposed development won't make it any worse!

Dacre's justification for the development appears to be partly based on the misapprehension that the village is a "Service Centre" (RSS/LDF tech-speak for a town).
Skipton is Craven's "primary service centre", Settle is also a "service centre". For the failed Leeds City Region Growth Point bid, Craven District Council wanted the three villages of Sutton-in-Craven, Glusburn and Cross Hills to be merged into a "service centre" (they even had a name for the town thus created - South Craven), but this was vehemently rejected by residents in 2008 and the bid abandoned.
Sutton-in-Craven is a separate village and Thomson's Field is classified as a "Green Wedge" and protected by saved policy BE3 in the adopted Local Plan. It isn't a "service centre" by any stretch of the imagination.

Hi Liz - no I haven't heard anything but expect it will be up at the March Planning Committee meeting which is at 1.30pm on Monday 12th March.
The agenda for the meeting hasn't appeared on the CDC website yet, you can check for updates here...
www.cravendc.gov.uk/article/1786/Planning-Committee
The agenda for the February meeting only appeared a couple of days in advance.
I intend to publish here how each member of the Planning Committee votes on this application. It will be interesting to see who votes with integrity and respects the views of the people they represent and who kowtows to the Government's "not a bribe" New Homes Bonus Scheme ("a Government scheme which is aimed at encouraging local authorities to grant planning permissions for the building of new houses, in return for additional revenue"). So much for localism.

Hi Cassie - yes it is.
According to guidelines on CDC's website, one person representing the Parish Council, one person representing the objectors and one person representing the applicant will be allowed to speak for up to five minutes each.
Planning Committee meetings are currently held at Belle Vue Suite, Belle Vue Square Offices, Skipton.

At 1.30 in the afternoon - disgraceful, how do they expect working people to get there :-( |

Thank you. I agree it is a disgrace holding it in the middle of the day. On the other hand I think that was the idea so not many people can attend. Thanks cassie |
