Whitsuntide Walk and Sutton Country Fair 1959
I have been looking through the various items in 'Gallery' - as you do ! and would like to mention that the film taken by my uncle, Allen Chapman of the 'Whitsuntide Walk' was taken in 1960... I say this because my mother appears in a few shots and she is wearing an outfit that I made for her to wear at my wedding in 1959 so it has to be the year later, as I also appear briefly it cannot be later than 1960 as I was living in South Africa from 1961.
The Country Fair would still be 1959, for reasons quoted by Alan Pickles and his 21st birthday and also my sister Eileen Harper was the 'queen' that year.
It was very nostalgic looking at the film again so many years later and identifying various people - many memories kept flooding in that were sparked by seeing the people there more than the occasion.

yes - 51 years ago you and I were both at different churches - on the same day. However, Sutton Baptist Chapel looked very different then with the grand old building still in all its splendour. I believe you are involved in some artistic work for the 300th anniversary - ? |
