N.O.D.I.S.C. Craven Herald Report/Council Meeting Time
Hi All
I'm slightly disappointed in the write-up of Skipton's meeting in the CH this week. I think its a little misleading, as it says that the housing proposals (250 per year) has already been agreed with the government. I understood that this isn't the case - the consultation period was officially to finish round about now, but I've heard that because we are all so infuriated about this, they are extending the period. We need to press to get this figure back down towards RSS that was (170/180)
The good news is that the entire Craven district is now aware of this, thanks to the paper. You can comment on the article (P9) on www.cravenherald.co.uk
Also important to stress that everyone e-mails ldf@cravendc.gov.uk to get on the mailing list to be part of the consultation process.
Petitions going into Cross Hills this morning - I can drop one in at Panache too, so they can catch all their customers. Anyone know if the Post Office was willing?
Finally (almost) - what time is the meeting on Weds? - Craven Herald have reported 7pm, the Council Agenda states 7.30pm.

Might be a good idea to have a face-to-face meeting at some point, once we have Wednesday's meeting out of the way - there are a lot of good people contributing on this forum, and we could do with forming an organised group? |

PS on the CH website, there is an article about Mr Knowles-Fitton saying he will vote against the LCGP Bid on Weds. Its interesting reading. Have posted a comment on the "No more houses" story including the ldf e-mail address and this website. |

I think the Craven Herald website got that point wrong, what Mr Knowles-Fitton actually said was:
"I am not going to give you a commitment now that I will vote against this, but I have to say that at the moment it's very much uppermost in my mind. It seems to me that for us to vote something which affects you directly and which you are unanimously opposed to seems to me that may well be the wrong thing to do."
I'm sure Mr Knowles-Fitton chooses his words carefully, as he did on the Calendar interview where he said money "might" be used for a station in Cross Hills.

I was disappointed with the write-up too. It sounded like all of this was about an extra 50 houses, which would offer huge amounts of money to the area, not the extra 900 spread over 18 years. I've posted my concerns on the CH web site- Thanks for the address Liz. |

The Craven Herald article states the housing figures are "indicative".
Whenever CDC uses the word indicative what it really means is minimum.
In 2007, CDC asked the Government to increase the houses per year figure to 300 throughout Craven. The Secretary of State rejected this and set an "indicative" figure of 250. Their definition of indicative is contained in the following extract from the Agenda for Item 5 of the Craven District Council Policy Committee meeting held 19 December 2007.
"Craven District Council are extremely concerned that the revised housing figures have been reduced and will prevent the Council from achieving its affordable housing requirements and thus achieving sustainable communities. There are advanced plans for 300 new homes in Skipton alone by 2011. However, it is important to note that the annual housing rate in the Proposed Changes is now an indicative figure and not a maximum target. It has been suggested by Government Office that "indicative" can be interpreted to mean "minimum". If that is the case then Craven would strongly support this approach, but it is imperative that it is stated explicitly in RSS.
There has been no explanation as to why the figures for Craven have been reduced, and the only assumption is the one of restraint in the North Yorkshire rural districts referred to earlier.
Government Office have also advised that the housing provision may vary over the Plan period in accordance with justified local needs. This means if CDC evidence shows a need for more dwellings to be created to deliver affordable housing and maintain a balanced approach towards the overall housing market then more permissions can be granted to help deliver that objective."

There seems to be confusion over start time of Weds meeting.
I've just rung the council and they said 7.30 start
(the 6pm meeting before is the policy committee, not for public consumption)
Might just be worth someone ringing again on Weds just to double check, they are supposed to give 24 hours of any change |
