Sutton Funday 2008
Sutton Village Committee
Sutton Funday Sunday 15th June
The sun shone on Sutton again this year for the Village Funday The atmosphere was fantastic with the very successful road closure, making it a safe day for all. The day stared with the largest procession to date, led by the Scottish Pipers Band, Followed by Sutton’s Retiring Queen – Beth Shaw and Attendants – Olivia Morrell and Laura Preston in Mr Malcolm Gallagers Thunderbird. Followed by Sutton’s 2008 Queen – Emily Quirk and her attendants – Amelia Knight and Samantha Moore. Throughout the rest of the procession we had 5 visiting Gala Queens, Scouts, Girls Brigade Brownies, Classic Vehicles, Themed Floats, Walking Groups and Fancy Dress Entrants. We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who joined in – Kick starting a fantastic day! On the field we had many local Fundraising stalls, Hazel & Tony with their new baby donkey and its mum, K2 Climbing Wall, Laser Quest and Archery. Back by popular Demand the Monday Clubs ducking stool with the ladies hour special and the guest appearance of PCSO Jason Perkins, alongside their new attraction – the stocks. Brand new attractions for this year sponsored by Sutton Village Committee were the Live Owls, Punch & Judy Shows, Magic Shows and free balloon modelling all of which were very popular.
We would like to say a big thankyou to all the volunteer helpers who worked so hard both on the day and prior to enable the Funday to go ahead - Working a very busy Refreshment Marquee, Baking and Donating Scones & Cakes making the Cream Tea marquee very popular with their fantastic efforts. To all the helpers patrolling the roads, collecting on the gates, doing what ever it took. Our thanks yet again go to Mr Leonard Thompson for his very generous offer of his field. To Rachel Panteli, Tom King & Team for doing a fantastic Job Judging the procession. To Phil & Kate Corp for taking the photos, and doing the video. To all the many people for supporting the event, donating on the gates, on the procession route, buying a cream tea etc. All this money raised goes towards the costs of staging the event which now runs into thousands of pounds. For us to be able to keep bringing new attractions, sponsoring the prize money for the procession entrants & Keeping everything up to Health & Safety we rely on your support & Generosity. We would like to extend our thanks on behalf of the committee to our Chairman David Harrison – Young, who worked non-stop prior, during and after the event – overcoming many obstacles to ensure it was a safe fantastic Funday for all. So in closing Sutton Village Committee would like to say THANKYOU to everyone – the committee, the volunteer helpers, the supporters and we look forward to seeing you next year – Sunday 21st June 2009
But we really do need more volunteer help – if you can help in anyway we would very much appreciate it. Please contact Christine on (01535) 636639 to discuss it further.
