2000 houses - the only way to stop it
I've found a very interesting document on the Middlesbrough Council website about a Growth Point Bid in Tees Valley, you can read it here...
Tees Valley Growth Point Report
The key thing to note is that the submission deadline is 27 October 2008.
As stated in the Craven Herald article, Sutton and Glusburn District Councillors rebelled against the proposal at a recent policy meeting, hence the extraordinary meeting to be held on Wednesday.
THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE PROPOSAL BEING APPROVED IS BY AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE GOING TO THE MEETING IN SKIPTON ON WEDNESDAY 8TH OCTOBER AND ENSURING IT IS ONCE AGAIN REBELLED AGAINST.
If CDC arrange a subsequent meeting then that too must have the proposal rebelled against, and this must continue until the deadline has passed.

Well said Paul, this is not a time to slip into the background and just let everyone else do what is required. This needs direct action and a very vocal public determined to protect their way of life. |

Another thing we must all do is TELL PEOPLE. As I'm still finding out, many people don't know about this.
If 100 people know about it and 10% of them are able to get to the meeting on Wednesday that's 10 people.
If 1000 people know about it and 10% of them go to the meeting - that's 100 people.
So even if you can't go to the meeting and think you can't do anything you can make sure the message is passed on to everyone in Sutton, Cross Hills and Glusburn.

Sorry will not be able to attend the meeting next week, however i have sent an email to the ldf at craven district council.
A copy is supplied below
Dear Sirs,
While you state that a lot of time has been put into this proposal, it has not been truly thought out. And definitely not communicated or consulted with the community that you serve.
For example, there are over 600 housing plots being proposed leading off Holme Lane, Sutton (Reference 305-306, 309-317 inclusive). So that will be 600 (at least) extra cars trying to get down Holme Lane onto Main Street, Cross Hills. What a stupid idea.
Secondly half the proposed Sutton site is on a Flood Plain with all the issues that will bring, aside from the flooding of the houses, flooded sewer pipes, more vermin and disease.
Thirdly, the reason i moved to Sutton with my family is that it is a village with identity and community. 600 plus extra houses would kill that.
Therefore I ask that you reject the SHELAA, 2008 proposal

Here is the response from my letter from the Planning Officer at CDC. I had difficulty finding out what the 'Site Allocation Development Plan Document' meant.
I can confirm receipt of your e-mail regarding regarding the SHELAA. Please be aware that the SHELAA is a study we are required to produce by national government in advance of producing our proposals as to which land will be developed over the coming decades. The proposals document is known as the Site Allocations Development Plan Document (of the Local Development Framework). When the final proposals are produced (which for a number of reasons is a couple of years away) these proposals will be consulted on before a final option is adopted by the Council. I have updated your details on the Council's database for planning consultations so that you will be directly informed of any future planning documents being publicly consulted upon by. Please let me know if you would like your details to be removed from the database. Regards,

i'll have a word with my boss/editor and see if there's any way we can cover this in The Dalesman.
I have emailed the planning office as i'm unable to attend the meeting, but good luck to those who can make it. |

See you all there. |

That's great Sherby. I bet you're still finding folks who don't know anything about it. Such was CDC's effort at public consultation, even though it's a Government requirement for Round Two Growth Point bids.
Funny how developers from near and far seem to have known about it for months though!

They found out about it the week before last at a CDC planning meeting. The councillors rebelled, hence the need to call the extraordinary council meeting tonight.
If it wasn't for Councillor Steve Place putting the map in his shop window and then Anne posting about it on the forum on the 2nd of October I wouldn't have known anything about it.
