Thompson's Field round 2 - THE APPEAL
An appeal has been lodged with the Planning Inspectorate by Barratt & David Wilson Homes.

The reference to the triple copies was in the notice in Plaice's shop window.
I have received a letter from Craven DC today which does not mention this
fact, so anyone who replies to this letter in the singular will presumably be
ignored, but then again this may be my cynicism running wild !!!

I was wondering if there is a maximum number of appeals allowed to be lodged by a developer before Craven DC say enough is enough? Or are they free to try and batter Craven DC into submission with appeal after appeal? |

Hi Andrew. The developer can keep coming back with appeal after appeal. That's what happened with the Green lane development in Glusburn. 48 houses have now got outline planning permission after this area had been rejected for development by three seperate planning inspectors over the last 5 years. Once it's got outline planning permission the public/local residents then cannot challenge the decision. Unlike developers who can challenge planning inspectors decisions when it goes against them. So much for democracy eh. . I've a feeling Thompsons field may end up like Green lane in Glusburn. .
I was always under the assumption that if a planning inspector rejected a proposal then it couldn't be challenged for at least 5 years. Obviously not. . All these villages in craven have enough developments already. There are plenty of empty properties in craven and loads of houses up for sale .if these villages really do need new developments then why do most developments end up being part bought by the council to house dss ? As in the mill development in Sutton |

As a resident of Sutton, who lives downstream of the proposed development, my main objection is the complete lack of attention to the sewerage arrangements. I do not relish the thought of flies coming into my house, having first had a drink from what could, in effect be an open sewer. Holme Beck is at present a much loved natural amenity. We do not need any more houses in Sutton, a walk around the village will reveal houses empty or for sale in nearly every street. There has been enough development in the village and the infrastructure will not support any further increase in population. The people of Sutton are kind, hospitable and cannot be accused of not "moving with the times" but the time has come for them to dig in their heels now and say enough is enough. We should cherish this lovely village and strive to preserve its unique identity |

The appeal decision can be viewed/downloaded by visiting the planning portal link at the top of this page.
The conclusion is that: "In terms of the presumption in favour of sustainable development, I consider that on balance, the adverse impacts in relation to the individual character and identity of the settlements, their overall character and appearance and that of the area generally are sufficient to significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits, when assessed against the policies in the NPPF taken as a whole."

Excellent news for the village
now how about putting the same pressure on the application for 10 houses in a small triangle field at the bottom of the lane to Stubbing Hill on West Lane?
66/2013/13537 on CDC site
All that heavy building traffic going up and down the high street, at best a one way street! No pavements at the bottom of West Lane to protect pedestrians from extra traffic and allegedly some residents on West Lane had no idea it had been applied for?

A reminder about the South of Craven planning event being held at Glusburn Institute tomorrow (Friday 28th June) from 10.30am - 8.30pm.
Armed with the result of this appeal, I hope as many people as possible will make their feelings about development on green field sites in and around the village known to Craven District Council's planners at this event.
Surely in the light of the dismissal and the reasons stated by the Government's Planning Inspector, CDC has no option but to remove Thompson's Field from the proposed SHLAA.

and all the other green-field sites that are on there, which basically amount to all the green spaces around our village. Its really important that people go to the event tomorrow and express their views, otherwise we could lose our village's identity forever. People power needed :-) |
