Glyn Whiteoak collection - photo 05 Steeton Ladies Choir
Readers may be interested to know that photograph no. 05 in Glyn's collection is of Steeton Ladies Choir. It was taken about 1910 outside the Methodist Church which formerly stood at the junction of Chapel Lane and Skipton Road, Steeton. My father's mother, Margaret Baldwin, is sitting on the second row from the front, fourth from the left and her elder sister, Lena, is next to her in the top hat (third from left). The only other person I can identify is Lilian Hargreaves who is sitting on the ground extreme left. I also have the photograph together with another one of a ladies and men's choir taken in the same location and one of Lena taken when the choir performed at the 'Palace' in London in May 1909 - I presume the note on the back refers to the Palace Theatre, which was famous for its song and dance performances. |
