How can the green wedge between the individual parishes be maintained and used as one of the planning constraints when for some unknown reason, some unknown person / committee can without consultation alter the parish boundaries that have been in place for hundreds of years. The result being that The Hawthorns estate and the cottages on Sutton Fields now bordered on two elevations by Glusburn. While Cowling has inherited a massive green wedge to extend its building projects into. |

I've said it before and I'll say it again the south side of Boundary Avenue is in Sutton-in-Craven and if that untidy area by the beck is a green wedge then I'm colour blind. |

In 2010 parish councils were consulted and did have internal meetings -but I don't remember if the general public were ever consulted? One or two of us with historical interests in Cowling complained via the Craven Herald -but no-one else seemed interested at the time. I am still not sure why the boundary changes have taken place - or was it merely for the restructuring of the voting areas??
16 Cowling dwellings including their converted farm outbuildings- with great historical interest to Cowling have now moved over into Lothersdale and are now on their village map at the car park opposite the pub - but Cowling has also gained 16- which are a little more understandable eg. Lower Lane Ends Farm was in Sutton Parish, while most of their land belongs to Cowling. Brush and Summerseat are now in Cowling - but I am almost sure that they had belonged to Cowling many years ago anyway! All totally confusing!
I have recently asked C.D.Council/English Heritage what is happening about the listed buildings which should also now be moved - the milestone opposite New Hall - is it now in Cowling or Glusburn - when it used to be in Sutton haha! |

Now checked - sorry the milestone opposite New Hall does not appear to be listed, but Crag Farm is - is that the same as Crag End Farm - if so think its now in Cowling!

To Allan Smith, both sides of Boundary Avenue are in Sutton.
And for Joan M. The Sutton / Cowling boundary on the 1815 Sutton enclosures map was as it was up to the latest alteration.

Hi Joan. Crag Farm is at the top of Crag Lane in Sutton and is still firmly in the village. Crag End Farm is a completely separate property and accessed from Dick Lane. This farm was in Sutton but, under the new boundary changes, now finds itself in Cowling, together with Brush Farm and High Jackfield Farm which are also accessed from Dick Lane/Hangingstone Lane. Crag Farm, Sutton is listed and so is High Jackfield Farm. |
