Michael Swan Wednesday, November 5, 2008 07:35	Sutton Memories I was born in Sutton, lived on Rowan Garth during the 60's, 70's and into the 80's, attended Sutton CP School, the Baptist Church, Young People's Fellowship, South Craven School etc and my overwhelming memories are of a safe, fulfilled and exciting childhood in a beautiful village with wonderful Yorkshire people and a genuine community where you never had to lock your doors. Having lived in Surrey and London for the last couple of decades, it reminds you of how special the village was or has nostalgia blurred my vision ? Is Sutton how I remember ? Is it still safe and community spirited ? Do others of my age (44) (botox age -34) have the same memories ? This website suggests I am right - well done everyone. I don't get back as often as I would like although I fully intend to move back to the village in time. I would love to hear whether the beck still floods, whether any of the old shops still exist like the Fish and Chip cabin behind the Bull, whether anybody has any old photos from the 70's in particular, whether house prices are as ridiculous as they are here in Surrey, whether all the old Pubs are still open, any new restaurants, whether silly new Health and Safety Laws have closed Lund Tower or the Hitching Stone - just old and new memories please. I note the bonfire planned for November 5th - is it still in the Chapel Field ? I remember the whole village building the bonfire as a child and the whole village attending - it was brilliant every year. The Mayor of London has taxed bonfires and so we don't have them in Surrey. Ciao and hey-up in equal measures.

Thanks for replying - I am more than happy for the webmaster to disclose my email address to you and it is kind of you to offer the info etc. I did see the photo you mention - that was a 'blast from the past'. I am sure I am not on it personally but I definitely attended the Youth Club Discos with Mark Lord, my brother (Jeoff), Tombo, Martin Airey, Graham Wild and others. Best regards and thanks. Darren Green Sunday, November 9, 2008 11:24	Michael, I as an ex Suttoner remember the village with fond memories and always seem to feel it was a safe place to live. In response to your message the fish andchip cabin that was behind the Kings Arms is no longer there, I'm fairly sure there is a small house there now. The pubs are all still there though. Mrs Cox's shop that use to stand on the corner opposite the Kings Arms has long since been turned into a house, along with the butchers and the shops at the top of the hill. I went to one of the summer galas a couple of years ago along with my two children and it was great to see most of the village attending, it really did bring memories back. Nice to hear from someone else who still remembers Sutton and what a great place it was to live in. Regards Darren Green

Like Graham Smith (above), I only recognise very few names on this website and suspect many of our lot from the 60's, 70's and early 80's have left Sutton now for pastures new (usually concrete ones grazed by cars and not cows - we don't have cows in the south as they have been banned since they block the views of open countryside for Investment Bankers). Thus, it is always great to share the nostaligia. Have you seen the fantanstic picture of the 'Salt and Pepper Pots' at sunset ? That evokes some fantastic memories. I am assuming the Fun Day is the old Gala ? Do you remember the Pram Races ? They were mad ! What about the strange Druid Celebrations around Midsummer on the Ravenstones ? They used to give me nightmares. Midnight Hikes to the Hitching Stone with Peter Barsby and Mr Mitchell ? Where have you moved to yourself ? I will personally always have a soft-spot for Sutton. Patrick is divorced and lives in a cottage on Bent Lane Farm and Andrew is married to Mandy and they have Misha 12 and Harry 9, they live on Burnroyd Ave. I met your brother Geoffrey a while ago, I did not recognise him at first.
