Sutton Park.
On Friday evening I attended the event being held at the Parish Church. Arriving there early I decided to take a stroll through the park. What a difference to the layout at the top end in front of the Park Keeper's house. The swings have gone and the slide is no longer there. It must be years since I ventured into that part. What happened to the slide, was it rehoused somewhere else or just placed in a scrap yard? Having said this can I also pay tribute to whoever is responsible for the maintenance of the park. It is a credit to them and is obviously a big attraction to inhabitants of Sutton and beyond. I enjoyed my short trip down memory lane and also the event at the Church, meeting up with persons that I had not seen since the late 1950's. Many happy memories were revived.
I shall visit again in the not too distant future. |

No swings or slide!! We had many happy hours on them including putting candlewax on the slide to make it slippier. Is the pond still there? In trouble often for falling in. Is there still a putting green or have I imagined that? Remember the park shop with its halfpenny and penny boxes. |

The pond is still there as are many of the features. The putting green is immaculate and just like a miniature golf course in the same place it has been for years. There is a slide and there are swings but not as substantial as the ones that we used. The shop in the front of the Keeper's house is no longer there but I understand that there is a cafe on the surround of the bowling green. I doubt that there are sweets on sale at the prices you quote. It is well worth a walk around the park. |

Sadly real playground equipment is now verboten, I think we can guess why. Yes Sutton Park used to have the full range including a high slide. My personal favourite was the ram, dangerous? Obviously that‘s what made it fun as a child. If you want a nostalgia trip Hebden near Grassington still has a wonderful Victorian/Edwardian slide next to the Schoolhouse Cafe. The only downside as my other half found when she went to use it recently was that the metal heats up in the sun and it was quite narrow for her - well as a gentleman I‘d probably best to stop at that point. |
