Sutton's Got Brass
Hell, I am Christa Baldwin and currently teach at Sutton CP school. I teach a wonderful class of year 4 children, who are all learning to play brass instruments (so are the teachers). This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for our children and I was wondering two things: Firstly, has Sutton ever had a brass band? Secondly, does anyone in the village have contacts with other village brass bands, as I would love to speak to some people regarding our band and ask them to talk to our children or even perform for the children. Many thanks Christa Baldwin |

What a great idea Christa - because I am at the other end of the world I don't know what brass bands are still around - failing all else....does the Salvation Army still have a band based in Skipton? If they do I am sure they would help..

Hi Christa I attended a concert last night given by Oxenhope Singers. Their geusts were Silsden Town Band. Their Musical Director was Andrew Dunn. I'm sure if you contact him he will be delighted to help. Why not have a look at their website for more details? Good Luck. |

Sorry I can't accept the accolade David. If you look further up the thread, you double-posted and came in both before me and after me - by seconds it would seem.
Nevertheless, it's quite a coincidence that two people in the same class at KBGS in the early sixties and have rarely seen each other since, happen to come together again in this way.
Silsden band seem to be on the up after a difficult time in recent years it would seem. I wish them well.
I'm pleased to see you doing your stuff in the community. Keep it up. Christine and I frequent the Sutton site, not least because it is an excellent site, but Christine lived in King Edward St and we both went to Sutton County Primary School and the Baptist Sunday School and Chapel. So our roots are in the Sutton / Crosshills area and our interest remains.
