WW1 Centenary Poppies
Hello Sutton - noticed your poppies looked very nice all the way down Eastburn Lane on the verges - Cowling planted/scattered just under a million on verges and waste land - only a few came up - we planted in May/June and scruffed the soil a little before scattering - where did we go wrong?

Could it be the difference between the year-round tropical climate enjoyed by Sutton and that endured by Cowling that is the cause of the problem?
Also, suggest you go easy on the soil-scruffing!

Don't feel too bad, Joan - they planted a load of seeds at St Ives Estate with help from the Sport Turf Research Institute, but not a single poppy appeared.

Thanks - maybe due to climate up here then ahaha? The daffs and roses do come out a little earlier down below. The S.T.R.Institute should be in the know, so hopefully we will all be lucky next year!
