Keighley Gala
Anyone know why the Sutton Gala Queens mum had to walk along the side of the car at the Keighley Gala when there was a spare seat in the car? Looked a bit odd if you ask me. |

Thanks for you answer Andrew - short but a lot more polite than when my wife asked someone on the day.
It just seemed a little cruel, protocol or not (in such heat) plus it did look strange. If two people we walking in front of the car with a banner (see gallery pictures for Sutton funday as an example) I would agree with the logic of it completely.
May I ask where this protocol came from and how it was decided? |

Well you’ve certainly got a point Stephen, being a hot day and there was a spare seat in the car – why not let the Sutton Gala Queens mum sit in the car?
In today’s world there probably isn’t a right or a wrong answer, some would say yes and some would say no.
I don’t have a working knowledge of the rules governing Keighley gala, but I suspect the protocol will have been decided years earlier, possibly in the Victorian era and it’s in keeping with tradition and the pomp & ceremony of the occasion.
But of course the year is now 2010 and times have changed along with the core values and belief systems society used to endorse.
I reckon enjoy it while you can because I also suspect the day will come when Keighley gala and similar pageants will be banned because they upset somebody or a group of people. |
