The Hitchingstone
The 6th October walk by Sutton Ramblers took in the Hitchingstone - I've added a few photos including the "bath", the Medieval Cross Moline boundary mark of the Copley family and some names carved in 1881 on the floor of the hole on the west face.
Click the "Photos" link on the programme on the Sutton Ramblers page.

Thanks for sharing those great photos Paul. The old stories of this stone were told to my 2 grand daughters from New Zealand when we visited the pinnacle briefly in May this year - they were quite miffed when we didnt have time to walk over there so that they could see for themselves. I rather think they regarded me as a 'witch' at the time !! PS - loved the dog in the shed too. |

Hi Brenda, the "sheds" were dotted around on Ickornshaw Moor. Not sure about the history, could be something to do with Cowinheaders' rights over the moor?

Hi all, Had a great time in Sutton and Cowling area with my brother Allan and later with my wife Sally. These photos are great and give we ex Suttoner's a good reminder of our beautiful land. One ask is that they have sub titles to help with recognition.
