Kenyan Orphans
Could I please draw your attention to the poster about the coffee morning listed on the 'events' page of the web site? This is being held at our home and we hope as many people as possible will come along. There will be the usual trappings of a coffee morning plus, around lunchtime, there will be home made soup for those who want it. I know it's not easy turning up to someone's home when they are not known to you but please give us a try! We are 50 yards down Holme Lane from The Black Bull. |

The money is all in and counted. I can't believe the generosity in terms of both money and goods donated and money spent. The total raised was £894! Over 98% of that will be spent on the children - the rest is for bank charges to get the funds to Kenya. Thanks must go to all our helpers - friends and relatives too many to name. Also to all the people who turned up to the event, including from all the churches - Sutton Baptist, Sutton St. Thomas, Crosshills St. Peters and St. Chads in Bradford. Also to Keighley Soroptimists and, finally, the staff at Butterfield Signs of Bradford who bought and ate all the leftover buns! Well done everyone - and thankyou on behalf of the children. |

So pleased to read that your fund raising event to raise funds to help orphans in Kenya was a success. Several years ago, friends of mine over in Cheshire launched a charity called The Mango Tree, to provide support for thousands of orphaned children in Tanzania and Kenya. I wonder if your fund raising is for the same charity? Look it up on the web. The plight of those poor kids deserves all the support they can get. |

Many thanks for your interest. I had a look at The Mango Tree site, it's not the same charity but the aims are similar. Our fundraising is for The Kenyan Orphan Sponsorship Trust - see http://www.kenyantrust.org/. It's a much smaller charity than The Mango Tree but it still has made a big difference in the town of Homa Bay on Lake Victoria, where the children's home is situated. A lot is accomplished with a small amount of funds - mainly from regular sponsorship of the children, but that is never enough. That brings me back to the reason for our fundraising - to provide more cash and to raise awareness of the plight of the children.
