Update on Photos
Have just discovered your site and what memories it brings back!

My Grandparents lived in Sutton first in Eastfield Place (No30) opposite the farm, and latterly at Croft Hill.
When my parents returned from Kenya in 1957, with me in tow, we stayed with Grandma and Grandad, I attended the primary school and lo and behold, there I am on the 1957 photo of Miss Hooson's Class (middle row 8 from the left) and later Mr.Baker's class middle row, 6 from the left. I think that it might also be my grandfather on the right hand end of the middle row on the longstanding Mill Employees photo Harold Baker. (My Grandmother remarired after the death of my father's pa.)

Harold Baker his son, is of course the Teacher in the 1959 photo and consequently my uncle. Irene his wife appears in another of the school pictures, as does Tim their son. (Harold's brother Alan, left the village at 19 to join the Navy; his sister Mary was a music teacher)

Not very good with recognising others in the pictures, (we only stayed about 12 months in Sutton before moving onto Bradford) but remember the name of Keith Preston, his Grandad had the cobblers on ???? Street and as kids Tim, Keith and I used to be allowed into his back room to watch as he nailed leather onto shoes on lasts, pared the edges with very sharp knives, then smoothed off on a lathe and added the final polish! - the smell was wonderful, but the whole place seemed to be knee deep in off-cuts and dust!

Hope to visit and revive memories shortly.

Trawling through the pictures also found my paternal step-grandfather Horace Baker on the Air Raid Warden's group photograph and my aunt Mary Baker featuring in some of the musical ensembles.

Visited the village last week and wandered round sharing memories with my wife. The village seems to have expanded at the edges, especially the absence of Bairstow's Mill, but the heart of it remains much the same as I remember. Lovely to see the place looking so familiar.
