Clough Head Farm, Sutton in Craven
I have just found this site and am interested to find, via Google maps, that Clough Head Farm still exists - would like to know if anyone there would like contact me - my gt. uncle, Herbert Wells, farmed there and is there in the 1911 census with his family - I have an old picture of the farm in the 1900's but have also found this on another site, sent in by a Dr John Laycock - does anyone know how he got this family photo? I would like to hear via e.mail from anyone who has any more history of Clough Head Farm. Thanks, Joan |

Hi Joan I lived at the next farm 'next door' in the 50s and 60s and I am still in touch with the current family who live there. I also vaguely remember the family prior to the current occupants but not the Wells family. Is it the Wells family that you are interested in or something more specific to Clough Head? There are to my knowledge, two totally different pictures of Clough Head Farm house, one the current, relatively modern farm and the other very old building. Despite having queried this, I do not know why this is. Let me know if I can help? Janet |

Hi Janet Thanks for reply - well Herbert George HenryWells, the farmer at Clough Head, was my gt. uncle - I know he died at Moss Carr Farm, Keighley in 1954 - I don't suppose anyone knows much more about him there? He had 5 children and I have been in touch with a couple of his grandchildren but they don't live in Yorkshire.
He was the 6th child of 13, all of whom lived - my grandfather was the 12th - the mother died the day the 13th was born. SO it is a very interesting family.
The old photo is a family photo - and I have seen the new one on a website - does the old building still exist - sorry to bother you if you are not interested.
I will look for a reply if you feel you want to - I have asked Paul Wilkinson the webmaster if I can exchange e.mail addresses with anyone who is interest.
Many thanks and all best wishes, Joan Pearman - my mother was a Wells. |

Hi Joan
The old building no longer exists. I will see if I can find out any further info about the Wells family - it may a while, but if I get anything I will contact you. I am happy for Paul to release my email details to you. I guess he was there before the Limberts and Padleys? |

Hello again, oh how sad - I am always sorry to hear that old building have disappeared - however I guess some of them could not last for ever - I will e.mail Paul and ask him to let you have my e.mail address - It is good of you to offer to help, but please don't if it is inconvenient - it was just seeing Clough Head Farm that made me enquire!
Best wishes, Joan |

Hi Joan
Sorry I've taken so long to get back to you. I've just come back from Clough Head and the current occupant doesn't remember the Wells family but says the current house was built/completed in 1902 give or take a year. If I come across anyone who remember the Wells family I'll let you know. J |

Is Clough Head Farm for sale? I have a feeling that I have seen it advertised on line by, I think, David Hill, Estate Agents. |

Hi Ngel- How wonderful to have this latest infomation - my great uncle,Herbert George Henry Wells farmed at Clough Head Farm and was there in the 1911 census. He died in 1934 at Moss Carr Farm, Keighley, so I would be extremely interested to hear if you have any information that would be of great interest to me. I will have another look at his information on Ancestry to see if it comes up with anything more.
And the lady who moved to Moss Car Farm from Clough Head Farm I am thinking must be one of my relatives? WOW
I will ask the administrator of this site if he can send you my e.mail address to so we can communicate directly -
Thank you so much for contacting this site. Best wishes, Joan |

Hi Joan,
I've read this post several times over the last few months.... My wife and myself are the present owners of Higher Moss Carr Farm which used to be known has Moss Carr Farm. Until the weekend I was never sure if this post was related to our farm or the other farm that use to be called Moss Carr Farm. I have seen a similar post on-line which had very similar info but caused some confusion as it showed different names of people that lived here (both post ref: Higher Moss Carr Farm). However all that changed at the weekend.... after spending hours and hours of researching on-line, a lady came to the house saying that her family moved here I think she said it was in 1913 from Clough Head Farm. I don't want to mention her name on here without her consent but I am sure she will be able to help you with information on Herbert Wells. If you respond to this posting I will let the lady know and see if she would like to pass on information that I am sure will be very helpful to you..... that's if you haven't already found it out.
Nigel.....
