Well it is nearly celebration day - I hope your stall goes well Nikki and that the whole day is a sunny and joyful occasion - I wish I was there with you all.
And, before any of my 'friends' say anything - NO - I dont remember the park being opened - I'm not quite there yet !!! I do remember the Queen's Coronation Celebrations though and still have a dish I won in the races we had in the park - unfortunately the other items I won have gone missing over time. To everyone - Enjoy. |

What a brilliant afternoon the centenary celebrations have been. Congratulations to the parish council, in particular Denise Emmott who has put an enormous amount of time and effort in organising the event, and of course everyone else who has contributed. A lovely village get together just as it should be. |

Yes, it was a fantastic afternoon. As is usual with this type of event, a lot of hard work will have been done by a relatively small band of people - congratulations to anyone who was involved. |

what a cracking day,far better than fun day,if you agree please let it be known, put your views on here and be counted.it could be a yearly event instead of fun day.it could be called the village fete. |

I agree Derek, we are a village and I have had a massive amount of feedback all loving the traditional day (which I have always been in favour of), loved the fact that there was NO large rides, and loved the classes that we entered too, it really had a village community feel about the day with people enjoying the simple games and stalls etc...I dislike the big rides and 'fairground' style that we have been getting recently, and from what I have heard I am not the only one either, like I say we are a VILLAGE not a town. I think the people who organised it did a great job and thank you to them, and also to Mark and Dawn who continue to keep our park the BEST in the area!

Sutton Park Centenary,
Putting on a large event is very much a team effort and on behalf of members of the Parish Council and myself I would like to thank all the stall holders who attended, local community groups, the people who helped man stalls and bouncy castles (with a special thank you to those roped in at the last minute). Thanks to Sutton Gala Queen Megan Lee and Brian Middleton, for opening the event. The competition judges. The fabulous entertainment, The Yorkshire Volunteers Fan Fare Trumpet, Brass and the Corps of Drums, The Girls Brigade who put on a great Fashion Show, Sutton in Craven Community Primary School and C of E School for the Maypole Dancing and a special thank you to Nikki Barrett for her superb performance. Everyone involved in organising the sports races and Fell Race with special thanks to Lucy, Tim and Camille. To Tanya, Christine and Mark who have been invaluable. Very special thanks to Stuart Robinson who did a tremendous job comparing the whole event, not an easy job. Thanks to everyone who helped in anyway, people who have made donations and to all those who attended to support the event. THANK YOU Denise Emmott

Ah, interesting to see that Brian Middleton was invited to open the event, together with Sutton Gala Queen Megan Lee.
I'm guessing that Brian would have been the Sutton park-keeper for at least 30 of the previous 100 years.
Sounds like the celebrations were a huge success, good stuff. |

Can I please add my congratulations to everyone for a very splendid and well organised afternoon. I hope we don't wait 100 years for the next one. The long-awaited sunshine was a huge bonus to the event being successful. Just a word of caution about comparing the centenary celebrations with the Fun Day. Whilst I too enjoyed the more simple aspects of a traditional community event, there is room for both - and both bring the community together in a spirit of joy, fun and friendship. |

It looks and sounds as though it was 'simply the best' - the sunshine had to be a gift too. The park certainly looked as though it had a life of its own - well done everyone. And, to quote Andrew - I wish I had been there too. |

Thanks - Nikki, it is good to put a face to a name - especially when you know the family. It is also great to know that some of these 'old' families are still around in the village. The whole day sounds to have really gone well and thanks to folks like you who contributed. |

It was good to see a old fashion event in the village and the park centenary was excellent, at least the little stalls and events that took place was more like the old sort of gala i used to go to when was a nipper. I dont think the fun day is as good as this it's just large rides and a fun fair, that's ok for some where like skipton and keighley but a village should have a traditional fete and what local crafts the village has got to offer. P.S. i think the village committe do a grand job. Ian Park |

The parks centenary day was a fantastic success, and a credit to all the people involved. Comparisons should not be drawn with “Fun Day”, the two events were not connected. The spirit of the village should be celebrated and built upon, future success may depend on it! |

Hi All involved in the recent, and I must say from the accounts above, a very successful centenary celebrations. It was great to read the accolades from the locals who obviously appreciated the country village feeling. Well done Nikki. By the way, which Barrett's are you? |

Hi David
Thank you - but I only played a tiny part in the day with my stall and singing in the park, it was the work of Denise and parish council team that made it happen plus lots of others, but the day was truly memorable. To answer your question of which Barrett clan I belong to..... I am the Grand daughter of the late Mary and Frank Barrett and the Daughter of David and Mary Barrett, one of the twins and niece to Joan and Micheal :o) |
