Surely they won't have started building on that prime agricultural land that was Thompson's Field by November???

Can't it be held at the park again?

What about at Glusburn park instead, in South Cravens School field, the field next to it or what about the scouts field at Kildwick?

As for Thompsons field what is happening there? Is the owner open to negotiation?

In response

Sutton Park has failed its Risk Assessment which is why it was moved from there (see previous Forum Topics) We have had another company look only the other day and unfortunatly the same conclusion - the park is just too surrounded by houses.

Glusburn park is also not suitable,

We have already tried South Craven School for their fields - the answer was a no.

The other fields mentioned - and those along sutton lane towards eastburn - the owners have been contacted and the answer is also a no.

We are un aware of this site - any potential site must be be large and within certain distances have no houses or buildings - we have minium size requirements for the fireworks and then we need room for the crowds - although we are all just volenteers, Health and safety is paramount at our events and we will not comprise peoples safety.

We are open to suggestions - please feel free to contact us with the details if the land owner is happy and has agreed for the site to be used for this event.

This field was previouly donated for our use in the past - which we are grateful to the Thompson family for, but their circumstances have now changed and this is no longer available for either funday or bonfire.

This is so sad.
Why won't South Craven allow it? and what about Eastburn playing fields?

Thought Thompsons field was reported to have been an "old plague burial site", if so, if it's consecrated ground how can they build on it?

RIP events in Sutton it is a very sad loss.

Oh yes and a big fat thanks to the school for saying no - what great community spirit. Im sure we will remember this the next time the school comes cap in hand wanting some money !

Read the parish council minutes re helping fun for kids before you say that. It looked poor to say the least especially as this organisation helps a lot of families in Sutton.

What are the farmers and schools main concerns regarding the bonfire? Can these concerns be dealt with so that holding the bonfire can be a more attractive option. Can we offer them for example free advertising or work placements for students etc?

If Thompsons field has new owners, would they be interested in good pr and generating some goodwill in the village?

We need to generate community spirit. You don't do that by laying into the school.

After checking the Kildwick burial registers, the odd plague burial entry was at West Field, I have had a word with local historian Paul Longbottom and he told me that the West Field is up West Lane on the right hand side, below where the pinfold used to be, so once they start digging for the foundations in Thompsons field it should be interesting to see what is underneath, if anything is found it will halt the building whilst a survey would need to be done on what to do with what they unearth.

Here's a suggestion... why not have the bonfire, crowds, burger stalls etc in the park but have the fireworks set off from a different location - up by the beacon for example?

That's a brilliant idea. Can it be done?

Hi Jin

You are probibly right - I was just fed up with the blanket NO answer and the situation we are in with yet more housing.

Chin up they haven't built the houses yet.

I think the best option to save our greenland is to demand an accurate assessment of housing need in our villages. Then there will be no justification for building over and above that. The 250 houses a year might as well have come out of a hat for all the relevance that figure has to actual need.

And as housing need completely excludes disabled people and families its a bag of rubbish anyway, upheld by a council that seems to aprove of disabled discrimination.

With regards to the funday. Will there be no bigger rides coming this year, as Thompsons field cannot be used?

In response to the question from 'me' regarding our Funday we can confirm that the bigger rides will be in attendance this year although not on Thompsons Field.

Could I take this opportunity to remind everyone we are still desprately seeking a suitable site for our bonfire and fireworks display - we are now down to a couple of weeks to secure a site otherwise the display will not be able to go ahead.
