Le Tour
Hello, I was wondering if anybody knows if and what time the road through the village is closing on Sunday, I know the main event is around 3 o clock but I am presuming the road will close earlier?
If anyone can shed some light on this that. Would be great thank you. :o) |

Also I was wondering apart from some stalls in the park is there to be any bunting to welcome the cyclists on the route through the village?
Apart from an 'Expect delays' sign you would never know that such an event was happening in our village?
Should we not feel privileged that we were chosen as part of the route and proud to show off our lovely village? |

If local Sutton information isn't forthcoming, you might take a look at silsden.net (Silsden's website), then click "Your views - latest" under the "Silsden News & Views" menu on the right half of the page.
Once you see the list of topics, click the one called "Tour de Silsden (Yorkshire)".
The most useful link from that page is probably tdy.granddeparty.org.uk/
Whilst it's Silsden specific in parts, there are a number of links going off the right hand side of that page with subject specific titles. Where times are concerned, Sutton will be about 10 minutes earlier than those published for Silsden.
I have to say that after the success of the Tour de France in Silsden last year, which was one of the most memorable days in the lives of many residents, I did wonder why Sutton hadn't risen to the occasion this time. The event is unlikely to have exactly the same impact as last year and the weather is perhaps not going to help but it's worth seeing a bit of history happening, as it may never come your way again. If you read further down the Silsden website, you will see the places where you can purchase the Yorkshire flags. I understand that the race is being recorded and broadcast by ITV and Eurosport. |

It has already been arranged for bunting to be put up in the park prior to the event.
Sutton Parish Council has arranged an event in the Park on Sunday 3rd May for all residents to enjoy. There will be stalls, food, bouncy castles, games and much more with Local groups and organisations raising money.

If anyone would like to volunteer on the day or would like to raise money or participate in any way please contact the Clerk to the Parish Council.

Stage 3 – Sunday 3 May
This stage is almost completely in West and South Yorkshire, however a small section races within North Yorkshire in the Glusburn and Sutton in Craven area.
In addition to the professional race, a mass participation cycling event – a sportive – is taking place in advance of the main race.
Sportive cyclists will be arriving in South Craven between 0800-1300. There will be a steady stream of cyclists passing through the area, and we will be urging all participants and motorists to take additional care and ensure they share the road.
To ensure rider and motorist safety, there will be a one way system in place northbound between Green Syke Farm (just south of the boundary between North Yorkshire and Bradford) and the junction of Ellers Road and West Lane in Sutton in Craven, southbound traffic will be directed via West Lane. In addition no parking will be permitted on Ellers Road or High Street in Sutton in Craven.
Access on the A629 at Kildwick roundabout will be restricted when the professional race passes through (race eta 1515-1530 approx.).
We anticipate the closures will be in place in the South Craven area from 1445-1550- however these may vary slightly depending upon the speed of the race. We recommend that motorists allow additional time for their journeys.
There will be rolling road closures in place before, during and immediately after the race has passed. The timing for the rolling closures is approximately one hour but some areas along the route and in the start and finish towns will be affected by longer closures.

Thought the tour was an Amazing success . I watched with several hundred others at priest bank rd in kildwick. Great to see an amazing turnout to watch the race,and the weather clearing up and becoming sunny in the afternoon. Heard their were several casualties of the amateur ride coming down Ellers road .hope the riders are ok.
For many of the 5000 amateurs this will be the first time they have seen this area ,and I thought the images of all the villages came across really well on the itv 4 coverage on TV.
Well done to everybody who went out and gave their support to the riders
And for anybody moaning about roads being shut or not getting from A to B on time it was only one afternoon .and it will bring more benefits to the area such as people wanting to re visit

I take my hat off to the gent in the white van who systematically worked his way up and down the Ellers for the 3-4 days prier to the race removing the rubbish from the verges, and what was known as smelt mill brow quarry.
At present there is loads of space for the mindless morons to dump the unwanted contents from their front room and gardens. Mcdoogles cartons, the rest of the bottles & cans they toss from their cars when they think no ones looking.
But we do see them, one morning they may awake to find their garden full of waste.

Hi Dave. I could see the section from America lane down to smelt mill brow, the bikes were going at a fair lick, but the police outriders with flashing blue lights and camera cars that preceded them, pushed along by the bikes, they were certainly not picking daisies.
The TV coverage missed the decent, one shot from the fountain uphill and an Arial view down high street and on to Holme lane.

It's a shame the owners of the Black Bull didn't remove the unsightly and unseasonal Christmas signs from the building before the cameras descended on us when Le Tour came through. It's very sad to see a grade 11 listed building adorned in this ugly and inappropriate manner. |
