Glusburn School photos
Hi all,
I was surprised by a lot of faces I remember. I was looking up the life of Peter Armitage the other night, who I didn't realise was at Glusburn. Is he still alive, and if so has any one a contact?
Lenard Dewhurst was another. Very interesting.

Even though I am up the hill in Cowling, always interested in Sutton site, and a few of your primary school children must have moved up here soon after these photos were taken, and attended Cowling School. Peter Armitage (Bill Webster in Coronation Street- v. popular ITV soap opera) still lives around Cross Hills - Farnhill? and is seen regularly - in Cross Hills Post Office only today! Very proud to have him in the area, a v. good actor/celebrity and a nice chap.

I looked at the two photographs of the classes at Glusburn School with little interest. After all, the children who are pictured are at least ten years younger than me and it was at Sutton Council School where I had my primary education, not Glusburn. But my interest was kindled when I saw the name Burfitt. I remembered a lad called Roy Burfitt who lived opposite to the Peg and Lag 'oil on Holme Lane and I remembered also a chance conversation I had with someone I met whilst sketching in a village in Wiltshire 6 years ago, when the name Burfitt cropped up. Anyone who knows me now will know that I devote a lot of time filling sketch books with images of places I visit - after one encounter in America with a most interesting chap on a train near Washington DC, I now refer to the sketch books as my 'Pictorial Journals'. Anyway, that particular day in the village of Market Lavington, a man came over and asked if he could have a look at what I was doing. In the conversation that ensued it transpired that he had connection with Sutton via his wifes' brother [I think] who was married to Gwen Burfitt. Gwen still lives in Sutton on a farm at the top of West Lane............... Small world intit?

Hello Leonard

Barbara Bolan (nee Cowling) has lived in Canada for many years. Unfortunately I have lost her e-mail address. Her Brother Jeffrey lives near Clitheroe, I spoke to him last night and he would be pleased to get in touch with you. I have his e-mail address which I could pass on to you via the webmaster.

I have sent Jeffrey's e-mail address to the webmaster this afternoon.
Most of the pupils in the 1954 class would be 14.
