Fred Pye
My name is Jane Smith I live in Canada, and would like to be put in touch with Robing Longbottom. Fred Pye was my uncle, I remember him quite well, but have no information or pictures of him or the Pye family as we left England in 1952. From what I have read on the site Robin new him well. I would like the info to add to the story I am writing for my children who are very interested in the Pye family history |

My name is Irene Hamling and I live in New Zealand. My mother was Muriel Pye, sister of Fred. She travelled to New Zealand about the 1920s and remained here. We are travelling to the UK in September and will be visiting your area and would be very interested in any info about the Pye family. I would like to get in touch with Robin Longbottom to see if he can provide any info. I have also contacted Jane Smith (my cousin) after many years of being out of touch. Appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks. |

Actually Terry, Fred Pye lived in Rosewood Square off the High Street. He worked from a small room in the old Coach House at Rose Mount, known to us as the 'saddle room'. Jack Gaskill, who lived at Kildwick, garaged a car in the Coach House and paid the rent on the 'saddle room' that Fred occupied. In return Fred valeted and cleaned Jack's two cars, which he ran alternately. Jack had a Triumph Gloria and a Jaguar in the 1950's and subsequently two Ford Zodiac's. Fred also looked after my father's car and opened up our garage every morning (during the working week) for him, you will recall that my father was disabled. It was a popular joke at the time that Fred came in with the deal when Alan Kidd sold up - as did a number of other Suttoners who occupied garages and buildings at Rose Mount. My recollection of Alan Kidd (Brian's father, who owned Rose Mount) was that he was a Yorkshireman, particularly where money was concerned. However, I suppose you are right in as much as Fred didn't pay the rent, but Jack did. Fred's death coincided with a fire at Jack's business premises in Keighley and he sold up and moved to Morecambe. |

I never thought I would find my long lost cousin through the village site, how exciting!!! Thanks to everyone for the info about my family. Robin has gone way beyond my expectations with stories about my family, and I can't thank him enough.
