BRACEWELL FAMILY
Hi,
I have already been on this website before but wondered if anyone remembers the Bracewell family- Harold, May, Sydney, Edna, Ralph, Derek and Duncan who lived at Bentroyd Farm and also 2 Craven Court in Sutton. My Grandad, Duncan attended Sutton Primary from about 1937 to 1938 as the family left to move to Lancaster around this time. I have seen all the pictures in your gallery and wonder if anyone in them has any memories of my grandad or his brothers and sister or even his mum and dad. We have very little in terms of photos / information so anything would be welcomed!
Look forward to hearing from anyone

Hello Joanne, lots of Bracewells came from Cowling, so you might try our www.Cowlingweb.co.uk site- old photos gallery - there is a lovely family photo taken at Higher Stonehead Farm, you might find a clue - some Bracewells are just over the Lancashire border near Colne also. thanks Joan, I have just had a quick look but will take more time tomorrow. I am going to send my Grandad the picture of the family at Higher Stonehead and see if he remembers anyone on it. I have a few Robinson Bracewell's in the tree but none married to Alice so will have to do some more rooting round! Thanks again. |

The Bracewells from Cowling are only very distantly related. Our family of Bracewells came from Trawden to live at Bentroyd Farm in Sutton. There were 7 brothers and sisters. Fred, Harold, Edward, Ada, Helen, Margaret and Annie. I can not remember their parents, my Grandparents, as they died when I was very young. As you say Harold, May and family moved to Lancaster, Fred and Hida went to Gloucester where some of their family still live. Helen was also in Lancaster. Annie ,Ada and Margaret (my Mother) married and remained in this area. Edward never married but lived with Annie and Ernest, her husband and their two children. Edna had two children last heard of living in Lancaster. Sydney had a daughter who now lives in Brighton. Ralph had a son last heard of living in Lancaster. Derek also stayed in Lancaster, I cannot remember if he had any family. I have not seen Duncan for a long time. Just knew that Nigel went into the Police force like his father. I am in touch with quite a few of my cousins and their children.

Hi Ruth
thanks for that information. My Grandad, Duncan is the only remaining sibling left now. Ralph's wife, Barbara is still alive and living in Lancaster and also Derek's wife Marie is there too. Derek married Marie and took on her daughter from her previous marriage. She was a widow. I am in touch with Syd's daughter, Lynne in Brighton but that's about it. I know my Grandad see's Pat from time to time (Edna's daughter).
I have also been in touch with David Laycock in Australia, another cousin and also briefly his brother. David gave me a family photo with you and your mum on. if you want to see it,i can email it to you?
My grandad has few memories of his family. He certainly does not remember his grandparents like yourself. I just wish we had some more photos or documents that could help build a better picture of the family.
I am currently putting together a document on the family tree and hope to be able to give it to my grandad after Christmas. I have been reserching the Bracewell's for over 5 years now and with the help of lots of different people, have managed to get back to 1600's. Again, as this is your family too,i am happy to send you a copy when it's done.
My dad,Nigel did join the police but has since left. My Grandma, Maureen also died in 2004. I will tell my Grandad that i have made contact with you on his return from his travels! |

Hello all you people in Sunny, oops sorry, snowy Sutton. It's sunny here. In fact it's starting to get hot. We had a 40 c this week so every one is now watching and preparing to avoid another "Black Saturday". On a lighter note Is was sad to see the web forum dissapear, so much so my PC went into crash mode and we lost all (or most of them) our email addresses. I have had trouble trying to contact my relations in the Sutton area and We are now up and going. It was great to checkthe web and see it running againand to see the topic on The Bracewells from my cousin Joanne who is one of the lost addresses. Ruth the photo Joanne mentioned was the one given to me by Ann taken by your Dad at Christmas time at your place. David |

Hi Joanne. I have not been on the Sutton web for quite a while. I would like to see a copy of the history of the Bracewell family that you have been researching, thank you very much.
I have a case full of old photographs, a lot of them belonged to my Mother. I have not had time to look at them but took a few out at random and there was one of your great grandma and two boys, could be Ralph and Sydney and another with your great great grandma. There could be more when I look through them all. If you would like copies, I can scan them and send them on to you. Let me have your address and e-mail address via the web master. Give my regards to Duncan. It is years since I last saw him.

Hi Ruth for some reason i didn't get the last message until now when i have been clearing out my computer! I have a book i put all the information on the Bracewell's into a book for my grandad which i was able to give him in 2010. My email address is jowagner26@hotmail.com so if you send me your address via that or your home address then i will send it to you. Also if you still have the photos of my great grandmother and the 2 boys or any of your mum and aunties and uncles - maybe even your grandparents i would love to see them. IF you could scan some in it would make my day!
