Well it seems that we have had a lucky escape....what with no public consultation , it seems that there was no councillor consultation until the last moment....it seems as if the Council Officers were making all the running with limited or no consultation with Elected Officers.
Again and I use the word 'seems' once again, that allegedly it seems that this was an institutional flaw of the regime of the Chief Exec (now gone)....which included bullying of officers and certain schemes being prefered and favoured....and councillors being flies in the ointment....or mushrooms which ever you like....
Its not surprising though, because if you look at the minutes of Committee and Sub-Committee meetings, it becomes obvious that certain councillors have a habit of sending their apologises for absence, rather than actually turning up....
It seems too that some of the Private Consultants that were brought in for professional advice have been instrumental in showing the LGP committee the error of their ways and possibly helped our cause.
At the moment I am worried about the Strategic Housing Market Assessment....with much input from professionals as unbiased (ho ho !!) as property developers/builders, and estate agents which at the moment is quoting a figure of 403 houses per year. Now while SHMA does not verify the viability of specific sites....it is likely to to be dominated by a ethos of 'expansion is good', just due to the 'go for it' ££££ types that might be consulted.
