1st Sutton guides
I was Brenda's lieutenant at the time this photograph was taken. When she left the company I took over as Captain despite not being officially old enough. In the early 60's we moved into the Scout hut down Station Road, when they moved to Milligan Place, and were still there when I "retired" in about 1968.

Hi Maureen - good to see you have caught the photo and that you were with the Guides for all those years as Captain - It is the only photo I could find and I know there were more. I remember some were taken of us all marching into Glusburn and Crosshills from Malsis Bridge in the Gala Parade.
Do you have any of later years, it would be good to see the group a few years on. Mmm they had to make special concessions for people like you and me who would take on the responsibility of girls from 11 years upwards.. No mean task either! !- No-one aged 21 or over seemed to want to do it - You obviously did a good job and must have enjoyed it. |
