Park Trees, views before and after felling
Hi Denis and any other Sutton ex-pats - I've set up a gallery page showing the trees in their final days and the view after they were felled.

Unbelievable photos ! How bare does the park look??
I fully back the decision to fell them and replant though.

Yes. It does look a bit bald doesn't it? But I hadn't realised that the shrubberies which used to feature in so many places of the park ie. round the bowling green and putting green, alongside the beck, around the lake and adjacent to the tennis courts had already gone. Their absence adds to the prairie like look of the area now. But I guess that vandals permitting, the park will be back to it's leafy splendour in twenty years time. Thanks for taking time out to record the event. Will anything be done to remove the potential safety hazard posed by the stumps? |

I've been told the stumps are to be removed this coming week, I think they're being ground out. |

They are doing the job properly then. It'll be a big drill - but I bet it's not as big as the one the school dentist used back in 1943 when he performed on me on one of his irregular visits to the church school. Can't remember what the dentist looked like but I'll not forget his drill driven by umpteen pulleys. |

what has happened to the lovely park at sutton in craven
it has had the heart ripped out of it thats what. could not believe my eyes today
those trees have been up for decades
the health and safety reason does not wash with me. if thats the case every tree in every park in england will have to be chopped down.
looking at the stumps those trees were not rotten at all. its the village commitee thats rotten.
the whole character of the park has been destroyed. to say im angry is an understatement.
also why would the park need lights installing? its shut from dusk to dawn, if its for the bonfire then why not hire some and a generator
the whole health and safety reason is a joke
i could have cried today when i saw the park.i have lived in sutton and glusburn all my 43 years. whoever is responsible for this act of destruction should hang their head in shame

Hi Graham - to the best of my knowledge the Village Committee had no involvement in any decisions relating to the trees. |

The necessity (and great expense to the rate payer) of installing lights for one off events has already been queried a couple of times on the site ,the reason being given by Christine it's for the benefit of the Park Keeper in dealing with night time intruders
Rumour has it that it's all a ploy to facilitate installation of floodlights to enable floodlit bowling (at our expense).Never been denied - watch this space ! An application for change in by-laws would be required to allow access after dusk - again watch this space !
Doubt whether the Village Committee are involved - they can't even organise pruning the trees at the Village Hall which grossly overhang the pavement on Park Drive forcing pedestrians to walk on the road |

Hi Stan - the Village Hall comes under the jurisdiction of the Village Hall Committee rather than the Village Committee. |

The park looks painfully bare its awful ! If the park was a health and safety issue what about sutton clough! them trees are old...... So? what is the ACTUAL reason for the trees being cut down? is it so it will be easier for them to run wires under the ground? if so.... thats pathetic!!! |

While I think it is scandalous that the trees have been chopped down, there is one bright side to come out of all this.
Namely, this year's bonfire will be one hell of a fire!! |
