Primary School Photograph - 1936
Forthe past half an hour I have been scouring this new photo. John Stanley Bell, Eric Seward, Sylvia Schoon, all so easily recognisable. Rebecca Wilson is the only teacher that I can remember from my time some eight or nine years later. Mr Walker I would not have known in a million years he is not a bit as I remember him. It looks as if there were nearly as many teachers etc as pupils at first glance but then I noticed that the lady next to Mr. Walker looks very much like Mrs. Walker. Was she on staff or did they bring family members to school for these events? The names on the board also bring back memories. Thanks for sending it in. I'm sure that when some of the other nostalgics see it the names will come flooding. |

What an idiot am I? ( Don't answer that). Mr. Walker is the chap on the right of the photo of course. No wonder I did not recognise him. Miss Schoon on reflection was her christian name Cynthia? (Kathleen Fielding of Hazel Grove Road,) Which one is you Kathleen? |

It was definitely Cynthia Schoon. And I'll lay a pound to a penny that the fellow with flower in his button hole on Bill Walkers right is Lawrence Preston who was Chairman of the Governors. I hope Kathleen can provide names to a few more faces. |

I have been following the forum with great interest on all topics and looking at the 1936 school photo my elderly mother has a copy of the same photo, my late fathers Uncle, Herbert Weston appears with his wife Bertha standing immediately behind John Stanley Bell. Mr Weston was deeply involved in local politics and could well have been a school governor.I will endeavour to gleam more information in due course. |

I Also would like to identify more of the 1936 students, Llived in Sutton and went to Sutton Council School from the summer of 1936 until 1942, my family lived there from1936 until 1945 .I did recognize Eric Seward, my cousin and Mr ,Walker,I would be interested in more information ,if this picture was taken at the start of the school year or end. |

Hi Janet. Doris has seen the photo and yes, it is her in the bottom right hand corner. She said it would be Edna and not Ida, as Ida didn't go to that school (I hope I've got that the right way round) and the Midgeley twins are further along the front row. Paul |
