Stunning photographs of Sutton shrouded in snow cousin, it’s a long time since I’ve seen snow and I’m dying to reach out and pick the stuff up!
Don’t forget the paddling pool is now a boating lake (government regulations!!!!!!). Glad you pointed out the putting green, wouldn’t have picked it from the photo.
Sledging down Thompson’s field brought back very early memories from when I was at Bairstow’s pre-school nursery, one of my earliest memories was cadging a ride on the back of a sledge having climbed Mt Everest to clamber to the top!

What fun it was to see the pictures of Sutton in the snow, I remember sledding down West Lane and also down the hill near Ivan's Of course that was about 65 years ago and there were hardly any cars then, some of fhe farmers drove and I remember one old car with a big rack on the back, he used to drive so slowly that the boys used to run and jump on the back and ride up the hill, . I am really showing my age now, those were good days, the war was still on but we had fun and had lots of friends, thanks again for this website., Shirley |

Paul, the 5th photo down (the long portrait image), I should be able to place it but can’t quite visualise where it is. Any clues?
We’re literally cooking here in Adelaide in a 43 degree (109 F) heatwave and I’m looking at Sutton shrouded in snow – surreal! |

Andrew- the 5th photo down was taken on Strikes Lane looking across Sutton towards Glusburn. Bottom left is Sutton Fields near the 1900 bridge, with the path going along Shutt Lane towards Glusburn Institute. The school is Glusburn Primary. |

Ab fab photos.....hard to believe this was only last week!! Same for me Andrew, it brought back lovely memories of Thompsons field, but we did a lot of our sledging in Baxters field at the top of Victoria St. How lovely it was...using anything that would slide...fertilizer bags...tin trays. Brilliant. And how bad was that cold burn when you got home with snowy clinkers hanging off your gloves then you started to thaw.....lovely. Thanks again for the lovely photos Barbara..... |
