Car parking fees at the CO-OP - the petition
There is a petition against the intended introduction by Craven District Council for car parking fees at the Co-op car park in Crosshills. We have been informed that the charge could be as much as 80p per hour without having ANY free time (eg the first half hour free).
If you would like to sign this petition, it is available at Thornton's (Peter Whitaker's shop) and Crosshills Post Office. |

Looks like I will be shopping at Spar then because I refuse to pay any money to the council if they charge. They get enough of my money in Skipton when I shop at Marks & Spencers. Not to mention council tax!!!!!!!!! Robbing gits!!!! |

Hi Josie, yes it's true the Co-op does own some of the car park, but not sure of the proportion. It does beg the question of how much the council can make from charging if they are to "share" profits with the Co-op! Think that may also be one of the reasons for charging as much as 80p/hour. There will be a meeting at Craven District Council, Tuesday 19 May, when this will be discussed - that is the deadline for the petition. If I hear anymore, I will keep you posted. |

Hi, I will be signing the petition - and I will also no longer be shopping at co-op until this issue is resolved. If they do decide to charge does that mean that they will also stop people who are not entitled to parking in disabled/parent and child spaces?

Hi Yvonne Craven Council do not charge disabled drivers for any of their car parks, and if disabled bays are full, the disabled can park anywhere in the car park for no charge as long as they show the blue disabled pass with the correct time showing, mind you I do always check the board for payments because some other car parks do supply disabled bays but do charge, like the one in Keighley that used to have Focus. Like you I will be keeping away from the Coop, plus don't forget Asda will soon be opening in Keighley. Might change my shopping habits from a weekly shop to once a fornight to save on the petrol and journey.2865 |

I personally think people are being with childish, by saying they are going to boycott the Co-op if they have to pay a couple of pence to park there car. the council need to make money, to maintain the car park, and also to keep people in jobs in the local council, and probably to also pay the Toilets that have been saved from being closed down.
A few points
I worked for the CO-OP a few years ago, the CO-OP own certain amount of the Car Park, but they never have enforced any rules regarding the car park, they do not stop people from parking in disabled spaces or spaces for parents with children, they are there in the hope that people would respect the spaces and allow the people who really do need them spaces to use them.
I have seen cars parked there for hours, which none of them was clamped (I clamped one car in 6 years, which was the bosses for a laugh), none of them ever got fined. I have seen people leave there car in the car park on a Friday evening and not move it until Sunday evening/Monday morning.
I personally think people should get a grip, on reality. and cough up 80 pence for an hour to go shopping.
Again this is my opinion

Bit of a death knell for Cross Hills. Just think how much passing trade that parks there for both the Co-Op and other shops will now not stop there.
Any chance of an online petition? |

This is just to clarify D Dear's point regarding the toilets in Crosshills.
These public toilets were CLOSED DOWN BY CRAVEN DISTRICT COUNCIL!!
Crosshills & Glusburn PARISH COUNCIL has now taken on the running of these toilets and it is for this reason alone that they remain open now - otherewise they would be closed like all the others CDC closed in April.
(and for the record, Sutton's public toilets have also had the funding withdrawn by Craven District Council and is now maintained soley by Sutton Parish Council). |

Ddear 80p on top of your shopping that is not cheap at the co op any way and as for the upkeep of the car park we pay enough council tax for that. I use the co op regularly and more often than not walk but thank fully now we are spared the parking charges for a while. |
