Steve Place
Dear All (including CDC)
This is to state that Steve has NOT been involved with designing, printing or distributing any leaflets regarding NODISC or the LCGP bid. This has been done entirely by extremely concerned residents. I haven't read the Craven Herald yet, but by all accounts, he has had a very bad write-up and this is entirely unfair. Steve has acted in the best interests of his electorate by bringing this to public attention. Without him, we would have known nothing of the proposals. He has also made it clear that even without the LCGP status (300 dwellings) that 250 was still the figure under the LDF.
Well done Steve, thankyou.

I totally agree Liz. For the brain-cell challenged CDC councillors who have accused Steve Place of producing and distributing these flyers, they only need to check this Forum (which we have been told HAS been monitored by CDC) and they would see for themselves how this flyer design and distribution came about.
The leader of the Council, Councillor Knowles-Fitton, has, in my opinion, been both slanderous (as at the meeting in Skipton) and libellous as it has now been reported in the Craven Herald.
I totally back Stephen Place and hope he does not take this lying down. Councillor Knowles-Fitton abused his position by making his statement at the end of the meeting, knowing full well that Councillor Place would not be able to comment (as is Council policy).
I hope other Forum readers also offer their support to Stephen Place on this thread. |

Steve Place as said above did not abuse his station as a CDC....in fact if I am right, as a PC he brought to the attention of the electorate something that was far reaching for the community which being kept from them in a inept, inefficient, bungling, and arrogant manner by COUNCIL OFFICERS AND CDC ELECTED COUNCILLORS who WERE in the know yet failed to consider the South Craven Community
Knowles-Fitton need to be censored and made to apologise for his conduct....the only reason his nose is now out of joint is due to his own making....lets admit it he was humiliated and shown up for what he is a..............
HE should now realise that all the committees he chairs and is a member of, should in general be transparent, communicative , open to public debate, and accountable for their actions.....councillors weighing the balance of the fate of the community at large should not be able to hide expedient ,ill-informed decisions and process , and then lash out at someone who generally looks to the benefit of the community.
Please all reply to any article in the CHerald.... |

I was extremely disappointed with the tactics used by Knowles-Fitton in his attempt to discredit Stephen Place at the end of the council meeting, and saddened to see his diatribe reproduced in full in the Craven Herald & Pioneer.
In my opinion it was a cowardly act and smacks of sour grapes. I trust most readers will see right through the misdirection and out-of-context logic and see it for what it is. If anybody has attempted to mislead anyone, it certainly wasn't Stephen Place.
I would like to re-affirm my thanks to Stephen Place for initially bringing the plans to the attention of the residents of Sutton-in-Craven. In my opinion he has acted with honourable intentions throughout the campaign.
We have been able to find out about Growth Points, Growth Areas, Eco-towns, the Leeds City Region, the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly, the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 etc all on our own, thank you very much.

in my opinion councillor knowles fitton should do the honourable and decent thing and resign from his position on craven and district council due to the way he has conducted himself and his comments towards fellow councillors. and if i was mr place i would consider libel action against him for slander i wish all councillors on CDC were as honest and open as mr stephen place is. mr knowles fitton you are not fit to hold the postition you do on Cdc RESIGN NOW!!!

The very fact that Knowles-Fitton behaved the way he did, by expressing total contempt for public opinion and the views of other councillors shows him up for what he is! He was unable to express any sign of humilty in the face of defeat and he was clearly not sorry for his involvement. He still believes he his right and is willing to blame Councillor Place for stating that he wanted more houses in Sutton. We all know that Stephen has compaigned for affordable housing for LOCAL PEOPLE but Knowles-Fitton has deviously twisted that to mean he is in favour of building hundreds of more houses for outsiders to live in. We all know what Stephen means and it is sad that the Leader of the Council has to lower himself to save face. A 'Battle' has been won but I fear the 'War' is not over yet. Belive me! There will be a 'Back Lash'. |

Steve....The thing I always find with your posts is that I am always left wondering exactly what you mean....or in this case who you mean. You kind of leave things open for interpretation in a quick and throw away manner that does not always give clarity.
No offence....[ok][buy you a pint] |

I think we should knock up and distribute a new flyer, one that clearly explains Steves involvement and thanking him for his servics to the community. Knowles Fitton clearly thinks he can discredit Steve in the eyes of all the public who have stayed out of this and encourage Steves failure to be re-elected.
I also encourage everyone to write into the Herald in COMPLETE OUTRAGE at Steves misrepresentation.
Thank God for Steve place and I hope Knowles Fitton is accidently engulfed by a stray lorry load of custard tarts. |

Stephen Place has had a letter of reply published in this week's Craven Herald & Pioneer. It is a well articulated and honest response, setting the record straight. Anyone unable to get hold of a copy can read the letters page at the link below.
There are some other very interesting letters too. It looks like some birds are coming home to roost and I suspect there's still a flock out there just waiting for somewhere to land!
