Mary Hinchliffe
Looking at the MH photos, and remembering my time at the school, I would say that the "Miss Wilson" photo is very early 50's. This would make the date of the other class photo wrong. Much earlier than 1951 I would say. (I would guess at 1947)

A truly wonderful set of primary school photos.

The 3rd shot from the bottom shows 6 teachers with ? after Miss Hooson’s name. It’s definitely her, although by the time I trembled over the threshold and into her class at the tender age of 8, she was known as Mrs Bishop.

Miss Hinchliffe's class, early 1960s at the very bottom shows a lot of familiar faces, although these kids were 3 or 4 years older than me. Back row working left from Miss Hinchliffe looks like my half cousin Melvyn Seward, then Martin Thorpe?, then definitely John Kettlewell. Somebody from that year should be able to pick out the rest of the names I would have thought.

Mrs (Irene) Baker featured in two of the teacher 'group photos' stands out for me. She was my first ever teacher when I started school in the infants class at the age of 5 in 1965. I can remember SO MUCH of what happened, what was said and what was taught in that first year at school, including what she bought her son Timothy for his birthday (a guitar). She taught me my first three letter word which was HUT. I'm not sure when I moved on to four letter words but it wasn't long after!

Michael,
My neighbour, formerly Miss Hinchliffe is very much alive, I'm pleased to say. Were you a student of her's? She will be pleased to hear of anyone who might remember her and especially those who can put names to the pupils in her classes.

Alan...can Mary confirm the "c1951" picture date? Can't be 1951. It may help if she can remember who the teacher of that class was (Not in picture, which is unusual)

Maurice,
I agree with your reckoning. She was a little unsure of the dates but I will try again. Nothing wrong with her memory but she was clearing her Mother's home out and that does not lend itself to good memories all the time. Bear with me and I will ask.
How is your sister, is it Irene or Eileen? She and I were in the same class at Sutton. I don't think that I have seen her since 19....

Irene is still with us but starting to struggle a bit, as are we all I guess!---saw her last Monday. She's on the Mrs Belton's class 1947 photo.

Alan,

I wasn't in the same class as Mary, neither was I taught by her, but we lived next door to Mary in Ryeland St, Xhills for many years. Please remember me to her.

Also, seeing Michael Pilling's post in this thread, Michael might remember my brother, Ian, one of your former playmates.

Finally, identification of the lady teacher, leftmost in the 3rd photo (the first one with teachers only). I believe it to be Mrs Henderson, first name possibly Margaret, who at some point resided on Boundary Avenue.

Surprised to find messages regarding the date of a class photo that has been in the gallery since I put it there in 2009. Miss Wilson's Class 1951

Hi Rita, I think your photo added in 2009 may have been overlooked due to the current size of the gallery which has grown substantially over the years.

A few months ago Paul installed a ‘Search’ facility at the bottom left of each screen. Some people may not know it’s there, but if you enter ‘Miss Wilson's Class 1951’ into this search facility both your photo added in 2009 and the same image added last month show up in the first three hits. The difference being that your photo is COMPLETE with full Christian names as well as surnames!

As an aside, did you used to live on Greenroyd Grove in the mid-70s? I'm probably getting you completely mixed up with somebody else!

Michael,
I have no doubt at all that she will remember both of you. Mary is a very active lady with a very good memory. I will let her know that you have put a message on the website.
Alan.
