Aussie Bush fires
Hi all,
Just to let you all know we are lucky to be living 30-60kms soth of bush fires. So far 130+ deaths and 800 homes destroyed. Also David in Dandy will be ok. |

Good to hear you are well. The bush fires have dominated the news over here showing horrendous scenes of utter devastation and heart rending stories from people who have lost everything.

David,
I am pleased to hear that you are far enough away from the fires. There is nothing more frightening than being involved. I had the misfortune to be in the centre of the stand at Bradford City when that went up. That was only minor compared to this. I also had the misfortune to be involved in recovering bodies from two major mill fires during my Police service. Both left a lasting impression which is difficult to forget. Take care and be prepared to move quickly if there is the slightest chance of being involved. Good luck. |

BUCH FIRES hi all the fires are the worst in a long.......time and we dont want one like this again to manay lives lost and towns gust gone a lot of damage we are fine healesville under thret of fire last 3 days we been coverd with smoke its like fog but it smells bad hard to breath but we are the lukay ones |

Hi all,
As you all would have been aware the bush fires have been shocking, well over 200 deaths and still 30 +- missing. My estimate of how far we were away from one of the largest fires was a little further than it actually was. closer to 10-20 kms! Those large fires are still burning but basically under controll!? Today the conditions are going to be similar to "Black Saturday" but 4-5 C less still expecting winds etc. Most people have taken advice from the last one and are leaving the areas which are classed as being likely to flare up. Already a large fire has broken out in the SW near Warrambool where we go for holdays, so far no danger to towns etc. but, as we saw last time, it does'nt take much, wind change, direction or strength or both to create a firestorm!
There has beem some horror stories and some heroic and sometimes amusing ones.
We have noticed the donations have been coming from UK and all over. It's given those that have lost every thing/(body in some cases) hope to see that other people in other parts of the world are thinking of them. We had Princes Ann out just up from us, which with a lot people talking Republic etc. she was remarkably well received. As Dandy Dave said earlier we are the lucky ones and thanks for your well wishes.

Hi all,
Just a quick update on our bushfires situation.
This time last week we were wondering how Friday was going to impact on us.
Fortunately it was a better result than expected. Yes, we had very strong winds but also a bit of rain and whilst the winds were very strong the most damage was from fallen tree branches and powerlines. This last week has seen the blessing of a goodly amount of rain and decidedly cooler temperatures, which has helped the fire fighters no end. Only one fire is burning but is not a danger.
