North Yorkshire Sign
Does anybody know what has happened to the "County of North Yorkshire" road sign as you enter Sutton from Eastburn along Sutton Lane?
It has been turned around to face the other way!
This is most upsetting as as I always felt my heart lift a little on returning home from work knowing that I am entering God's own county!!
I was going to turn it back to face the right way, but stopping my car on this section of the road would be dangerous.
Come on Craven District Council, turn it back round and put it higher up (out of the reach of mischievious fingers!).

Sherby,
You can always park the car further along the road, get out and walk. It is only a short distance from a reasonable parking spot. Why not try it. |

Hi Alan,
We just arrived back from our jolly hols yesterday and as we were entering the village I noticed the sign was still facing the wrong way.
Being a dutiful Suttoner, I asked Mrs Sherby to stop the car while I got out and tried to turn the sign back to face the correct way.
Unfortunately not only has the sign been turned round, it has also been pushed down as well (or as I suspect hammered into place!) so that it is now wedged behind it's own supporting post. It needs to be lifted up six inches and then turned round.
The sign was impossible to move with my frail middle aged hands. I thought about returning with some tools to do the job, but figured it might not look too good with the local constabulary if they just happened to be passing by (which knowing my luck they would be).
I will just have to leave this task to someone more able and in the meantime I will enter the village by an alternative route ...... just so I don't get too upset. ;) |

Thanks for the manner in which you treated my comments. They were only meant in a light hearted way, but by bringing the matter to light again they and yours, have worked. Thanks to whoever did the deed. I will stop and admire the sign next time I drive out that way. ( or should I say ' in that way' ?) |
