Dentistry provision review
For public information...
A Review of the Provision of Dentistry in Craven
There is a strong perception in Craven that there are not enough NHS Dentists to go around. In last week’s Craven Herald figures were reported from North Yorkshire showing the improvement in provision. Members of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee at Craven District Council want your help to look at the facts. They would like to hear from you about good or bad experiences in finding a dentist.
The Chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Councillor Helen Firth, said "We welcome and value public interest in this review of dentistry and want to hear from residents about their own experiences, issues of concern and suggested areas to review. We will be publicising the review through local surgeries and will be seeking feedback from dentists and other dental care providers. Whether your views are about your particular area or are relevant to the whole of Craven we want to hear from you".
Some examples of what the Review may consider are:
- Identifying the communities in Craven experiencing the poorest dental health
- The availability of NHS dentists in those communities and the quality of service offered to patients
- How problems of access and service are being addressed by the NHS Dentistry Service, particularly in the context of tackling health inequalities
The first meeting will take place on 23rd March and will consider the range of issues that have been identified. This will allow the working group to refine the issues, decide which issue(s) to review, identify interested parties (North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust, dentists, patients) and establish a project plan.
Anyone wishing to forward details of their own experiences and/or suggestions should do so to scrutiny@cravendc.gov.uk or write to
