Green Lane Development
Dear All

There is a Council Planning Committe meeting to be held in public ON TUES 4TH NOV AT 6.30pm at South Craven School - this is when the vote will be held. There will be speakers from both the opposition and the contractors. We need to fill the hall so they know we are opposed - this will be a case of a physical presence rather than a verbal one as the speakers are already designated.
Please, as many N.O.D.I.S.C.ers as possible, go to the meeting, although make sure the speakers get in first!! See you there

I have it on good authority that if this development is voted for it will open the flood gates to future building. Green Lane is the first green field site to be proposed in our area, setting a precedent for all future development! The Leeds Growth Point proposal was rejected because of public pressure and that's exactly what is needed now. TURN UP TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT TO THE NODISC CAMPAIGN.

Yes, it's essential that as many people as possible attend this meeting. Please show your continuing support for the N.O.D.I.S.C. campaign.

If the Green Lane development gets the go ahead it will be the thin end of the wedge.

There's still a long way to go to get the LDF figures reviewed and get the 26% allocation to Sutton, Glusburn and Cross Hills reduced.

do you happen to know who the designated speakers are tonight for the public?
mrs beufoy from Glusburn is an excellent speaker, the last meeting she had her hand up but the microphone didnt get passed to her.
i honestly think it will get the go ahead, which will be terrible for this area of Glusburn
will be there for about 6 ish.
ive wrote to every member of the planning commitee and had 4 replies to acknowledge my mails(obivously they cannot put there own views in reply)
this is one of the worst areas for building on the SHELLA map, and im not just saying that cos i live here
Glusburn will be a nightmare if this gets the go ahead
i hope to see councillors barrett and beck at the meeting tonight!!
is the actual vote tonight? will we know one way or another
cheers Graham
ps
still not had reply from david curry mp(i wont hold my breath)

Hi Graham
I'm not sure who will be speaking, although am fairly confident that Roger Nicholson will be one. Philip Barrett will definitely be there. Unfortunately, this is the vote.

Fantastic result last night, but its not over yet. The developers will go to appeal, at which it is too late for the Council to contest, due to the advice they were given by Planning, I think. Its not too late for the public to get involved though - we can be there at the appeal and put our opinions across. The Chairman of the Planning Committe advised people to keep their photos, letters coming - keep up the pressure and keep contesting.

It is vital that we get the LDF tackled - the RSS of 250 houses per year for 18 years CAN be reduced as can the 26% allocated to South Craven - we need to all work together on this and make our voices heard. We mustn't get complacent and need to be pro-active.

Yes indeed, that's a brilliant result - well done to everyone involved! If the developers are taking their next appeal to the government level then now might be the time for more people to contact local MP David Curry.

I think it's time we all put more pressure on David Curry too. I recieved a reply from him about the Leeds Growth Point bid but it was after the vote and as far as I'm aware he was not at the meeting. Graham says he contacted him about the Green Lane development but he didn't hear anything from him in time for that vote either! We need him to be more pro-active BEFORE decisions about our green spaces are made by the council and we need his presence. Replies after the event seem a little 'safe' on his behalf! (Perhaps he's doing more than we think but I'm sceptical.) Get writing and emailing everyone. Recent meetings have proven public opinion really can make a difference!

How about writing to Gordon Brown too, re: losing our green spaces. The protection we used to enjoy, due to the old land classifications (areas of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty', 'Green Belt' etc), no longer apply. This is why councils can take their pick of our countryside for building and industrial development and that's just not acceptable! As a speaker last night said: 'This is like the Lords prayer, IT'S FOR EVER AND EVER!' Once this land has gone that's it!

I think a lot of people still aren't accessing information. This site is excellent but we need to think of other ways to inform the local community about meetings and developments etc. We MUST support each other, I know residents from both Crosshills and Sutton were there last night for the Glusburn community, thanks for that.

Together we are stronger!

I think it's a good idea to loby David Curry MP. We need his presence, which has not been felt yet. I did recieve a reply about the Leeds Growth Point bid, but it was AFTER the vote and Graham states he didn't hear anything form him in time for the Green Lane development either. Is he playing safe? Step it up David!!!

How about writing to Gordon Brown PM too! The reason we're in this predicament is because the government has abolished the old land classifications (areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Green Belt etc.) They no longer exist. We now stand unprotected and it's left to the council to build literally where ever they wish. Green sites are cheap and money talks to a council that's financially embarrassed!

I'm concerned some residents aren't accessing local information. This site is great but not everyone has a computer. Perhaps we can use other means to keep up the interest and pace of NODISC. It's also very important we work together. I know there were residents from Crosshills and Sutton at the Green Lane development vote last night in support of Glusburners.

Together we are stronger and recent victories have proven public opinion and pressure really does make a difference. We've still a huge fight ahead of us!

I agree with Norma this site is excellent and is a potent way of informing the community. However, as someone who didn't make the meeting yesterday, it occasionally lacks accurate reporting. Liz reports a fantastic result and the Webmaster comments brilliant but neither tells me what the outcome was. Did we get the development rejected ?
I have a further question if anyone can help. Speaking to a knowledgeable source today I asked if, should Green Lane go ahead with a development of 74 houses, this would fulfill South Craven's requirement to supply 63 houses in a year under the terms of the development plan. The answer was that this was not thought to be the case since the figure of 63 houses was simply a target and the true factor governing the number of houses built was the market. If a developer could agree with an owner of land then an application to develop could be made. This would then be approved or rejected according to the planning rules and need not take account of the target set in the development plan. If this interpretation of the situation is correct then efforts to reduce the allocation of houses in South Craven is a waste of time and an argument in favor of developing knowledge of the planning process in order to mount more successful oppositions.
Clarification please.

the planning inspectorate will be doing a site visit to Green Lane in december i think(anyone know the date of visit?)
he is the one who makes the final decision on if the development gets the go ahead im led to believe.
any evidence from us about flooding/traffic volume/infrastructure etc needs to get to him according to the councillors the other night.
yorkshire water and the highways agency have no problem with the development going ahead(which seems very strange)
need as many people as possible to email/write to the government department(planning commitee) also david curry mp regarding this proposed development
regards
Graham

SUTTON PAVILION

Unfortunately, Sutton Pavilion is now operating its winter opening hours, which means it is only open Tuesdays and Thursdays 2pm-4pm and Sunday mornings 10.30am-1pm. It is available for hire for £20 per hour (if a large enough group get together it would only be a couple of quid each). Let me know.

Hi Graham

I've started a thread titled NODISC campaign - MEETING so people can sign up if they're interested in a get together.

Regarding the Green Lane development, the original planning application was given reference 32/2008/8572 and the resubmitted application is reference 32/2008/9016.

Doing Google searches for

"32/2008/8572"

and

"32/2008/9016"

turns up some very useful links relating to these.

Could only get there for 2 hours in the afternoon. Seemed to be a good room full.....20 or so residents, several people being allowed to question and make points....Inspector seemed to be a reasonable broad-minded type....

Have you seen what is on the cards for us in Cowling? Firebird Homes at the top of Acre Field? Looks like a Bradford Growth Point up here?
