Royd Hill
Someone asked me if I knew the history of Royd Hill but we found we had different information. Can anyone tell me when it was built and who for and any other facts about it? Thank you |

Hello Pat Royd Hill appears in the 1841 Census with the Bairstow family living there, I would imagine they would have had it built for them. Thomas Bairstow & Elizabeth Ingleby were married in Clapham 28.4.1841 so must have moved in and started to have there family born there. Josie |

Royd Hill was the home of Malcolm Bateman managing director of T&M Bairstow until his untimely death, prior to this I was informed that this property stood empty for some time. |

Royd Hill no longer exists on two counts. some years ago, the barn was hived off to become a dwelling under a separate name. The main house has undergone various alterations to finally end up as 10 apartments with parking for 20 cars, under the new name of Sutton Gate Lodge. None of this including a grey roof that obliterates the view of the Cricket field should legally be there as the parish council, craven district council and the government planning inspectorate have all ruled That Sutton development ends at Wilson Street / Garden Place, methinks they should all have gone to Specsavers.
