Coronation programme.
Seeing the programme for the Coronation celebrations brought back even more memories. The entry about the bonfire and the firing of the rocket in particular. I was one of those waiting to carry the torch on it's way to light the beacon fire. It started off from the park and was carried by about ten of us on it's journey up West Lane to the area which is now a picnic area on the bend. Peter Barsby, Michael Lynch, Michael Garnett, Alan Catterall, Colin Pickles, Neil Palfreman, Denis Pickles, Myself. Peter Garnett and Robert Barrett, were those who took part. The fire was then lit by Malcolm Bateman's son. Thank you for once again re-kindling the fire. If only in my mind's eye. |
