My father Walter Davy was born in Sutton in 1894 and grew up there when much of his family's church and social life was centered on the Baptist Chapel which was an integral part of a thriving community. I am sending you two group photos which I think were taken to celebrate the Chapel's Bi-Centenary in 1911. I can't confirm this but my father appears on the first photo and looks his seventeen years and the rest of his friends are dressed up for some special occasion too! I have also a souvenir mug on which are the relevant dates 1711 - 1911. I have put names to those I can recognise and ultimately knew as a young boy but I would be pleased to hear if anyone else can name the others. Don't the girls look stunning!

Second row: - - , - - , - - , - - , - - , - - , Norman Davy

Third row: - - , - - , - - , - - , Charlie Knowles

Fourth row: Alfred Bancroft, Maggie Whitaker, - - , J Smith Clough

My father and Norman Davy were not closely related unless you trace the Davy family back to the 1500's when they were living at Kildwick Grange.

I think this photo must have been taken on the same day, as Smith Clough still has a flower in his buttonhole and the lady teacher is wearing the same lovely dress. I can name only two of the children. They became an aunt and uncle to me. On the extreme left on the front row is Sarah Davy, one of my father's sisters. She became Sarah Taylor when she married Horace Taylor and lived in Steeton with their daughter Pauline.

On the second row on the extreme right wearing a large white collar is my father's youngest brother, Edgar. He grew up to be a wool-waste merchant in Bradford. He lived in Steeton, married my aunt Dorothy and they had three daughters, Margaret, Josie and Frances.
